The essence of a two-column resume is getting the "one screen a recruiter scans in three seconds" right: the narrow left column holds static information like skills, languages, certifications, and contact details, while the main right column walks through work and project experience chronologically. The eye first scans the left column to quickly build a "what can this person do" impression, then moves right to verify "what did they actually ship."

The Modern Two-Column template is deliberately restrained: the main column takes about 70% of the width, the sidebar 30%, so hierarchy stays clear; the sidebar uses a light gray background rather than colored blocks so it never competes for attention; and every experience entry follows a "verb + task + measurable result" structure. It suits skill-dense roles that need the tech stack or toolchain visible at a glance — frontend, product design, growth, and operations.

One honest caveat: two-column layouts are slightly weaker at ATS parsing than single-column ones, and are best for referrals, direct applications, or small teams. If you are applying through an enterprise portal, switch to ATS-Safe Minimal; if your target team is design- or product-led and reads every resume by hand, the density here is an asset.
